Germany - Hieldelberg

The sky was dark when we arrived, the sun made an early exit as early as 4pm during winter season. The shadows of street lights hovering the streets as we walked around the city. We took some photos in the dark with an amateur camera and it was difficult as both hands were shaking due to the cold winter air. Nevertherless we managed to capture the beautiful castle

Hieldelberg Castle is also called the red walled castle.

Heidelberg is renowned for its oldest university in Europe, biggest wine barrel, was the center of Romanticism in Germany and headquarter for American forces in Europe during WW2 .Like all beautiful city ,there will be a castle sitting on a hill overlooking the river and old town.

The Ritter House - survived the destruction of the city

The Church of the Holy Spirit
View of the castle from Town Square
The view from the Castle was spectacular and the nature that surrounds it added the touch, we even took a ride to the submit, which is 550 m from sea level. The land was covered with thick snows, colder than lower ground ,the view was in a different level- more foggy but still cun!!

Villas along the river banks

When come to wine , the monarchy was so excited back then , that they built the biggest barrel to keep the wine which wine growers had to pay their share of taxes by delivering wine to the castle. The barrel was built in 1751 from 130 oak Tress. The vat is standing at 7 meter high and 8,5 meter across and capacity up to 228 000 litters . ( the biggest in the world)

My head is just next to the tap

Pictures below were taken from the top Submit

Majestic View from the top

Baby Gal trying to balance on a sledge

and back to the town , there is a bridge across the river surprisingly with a statue standing in front carrying a mirror for passers to look at, is called the Bridge Monkey,
Quoted from the official website Tourism of Heidelberg
" The legend surrounding this curious statue tells us that it symbolizes the fact that neither the city-dwellers nor the people who lived outside the city were better than the other, and that they should look over their shoulder as they cross the bridge to remember this."
And after crossing the bridge thinking the mirror humbles u , just turn back - and u will see the monkey posture with white topping - all flashing at you ( welcome Back!! )

ASS off!!

Wash me white as Snow

Winter always excite me especially when it is snowing, back in motherland the most I can see snow is in a bowl of “ice Kacang" a local desert consists of shaved ice covered with sweet syrup or milk.

This year winter is not bad after all, snowing none stop for few days and the land is thickened from 15-20 cm . Everything you see on the streets, trees, houses are painted in white.

But then need to be careful as road are slippery and proper attires are needed to avoid catching a cold. Making snow man, sledging and skiing are the few of the agendas u can plan during this time as most outdoor sports are temporary halt.

Some locals even took this opportunity to get married in the freezing cold river- special feeling i assumed , Anyway doing something difference during this occasion is a must - once in a life time thing!!

During our holiday in Germany , we tried some local food in a restaurant called Feldschloesschen - Stammhaus ( Dresden ) The building is a heritage with a protected turbine for brewery which is now turn into restaurants and museum. The house serves blonde beer and dark beer which was said to be one of the best in Dresden.

We tried the in-house beef stew and roasted pork knee for dinner and boiled pork knee for lunch on the next day. .

The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and cozy, filled with people , with colorful Christmas decoration and old antique equipments.
The waitress were extremely friendly , serving time was fast and foods price were reasonable.

Welcome "2010"

Everyone is looking forward to a new year , to offset their old resolutions , past mistakes , past action and making some new one for the year. Well that of course if u reflect on them.
I guess some even turn to horoscope or stars to predict the coming events and some just carry on with life just like any other year. I have learned not to set too many and high targets , as it can be a disappointing as all events are influence by one or the others.

End of 2008/2009 was the year i took the role of a father, it was not bad after all . Many sleepiness nite, many dirty jobs , many mix emotions , many new experiences which i must say is God given as to see a little being growing day by day. .it was her 1st birthday. We spend some time celebrating her birthday and had long holidays before ushering the New Year.

I guess we all had seen the good and the bad of 2009; it is like unwrapping presents day by day to see what life has to give.

Well 2010 has just started....we will soon be unwraping our own presents throughout the year ..and hope it will be a sweet one ...Happy New year .
